Have you ever felt that way?? I was at Borders this morning, money in my pocket, Borders Bucks to spend and I COULD NOT pick a book.  I had like 5 in my hands trying to decide.  I couldn't pick.  So I left with nothing.  Has anyone done this??  Well at least I have a huge TBR pile that I need to get to!!

I do that all the time!  I can never decide with all those magnificent shiny new books around me.

I don't usually run into that at Borders, but when I go to Borders, it's usually for something specific, and I know what I'll be buying & how much I'll be spending in advance.  Plus, I always log in to their website and reserve my purchases in advance.  That way I know there's going to be a copy there waiting for me.  I seldom impulse buy books at retail prices.  That I usually reserve for the UBS.  If I do impulse buy new books, it's usually at WalMart - where they're less expensive.  When it comes to buying new though, those purchases are researched and planned in advance.  I don't mind buying new books, I just want to know with a reasonable degree of certainty that they're worth the money:P

All the time, Dawn.  Part of it is the overload of all the shiny new books and part of it is knowing that Mt TBR is leaning like the Tower of Pisa.

LOL! I think because of my Mount TBR, I left with nothing.

KIM, I always use my rewards coupons when I go to Borders.  I don't think I have paid full price for a book in ages!  Today, I had my 30% off and $10.00 in Borders Bucks to use..so one good erotic book would have been free...I was so depressed when I left. LOL

But I have until the end of September to redeem my Borders Bucks so I better decide fast!

oh sheesh, i forgot i've got $5 in Borders Bucks to redeem this month!  i better get that printed out and in my purse so i don't forget again.

i also always use the Borders Rewards coupons when i go in (25% or better), or i just don't buy.  so that i'm not totally overwhelmed or buy something where i'm #1 on the WL, i try to figure out what i want before i go to the store and scribble my top 3 choices on the back of the coupon at home.

but i also have a huge system of figuring out what books i want, with five different wish lists at amazon sorted by how i intend to acquire the book, with the top level being willing to buy new/want NOW, so i usually only have to look at 10-15 books to decide what my top 3 that day are.  :)

Dawn - I get the rewards stuff, but not as much as I used to because I don't get as many new books as I used to.  With Borders, it's like spend more, get more.  And then I usually don't new books shop unless I'm going for something specific that's out new - never anything that I pick up just thinking, hey, this looks good.  Part of my paranoia about being stuck with a book that sucks, I'm sure:P  Everything, and I mean everything, has to come with a recommendation or a review to back it up.

I rarely buy books new at a bookstore. I just write the names of titles down and put them on RL or WL here.  The only time I buy new books is from Amazon-they're usually cheaper.  Also most books under $10 are buy 3 get one free.

If I had a gift card to use: I would have gotten a book from my WL. One that I was near the end of the line for then I could read it and post it here.

I think Borders is having a B4G1 free sale on romances thru the end of the month.  That certainly helps me decide.  ;-)

I just buy all the ones I am thinking about buying.   :-O

It's funny, cause I work at a Borders. And honest to god, while I'm working I'll see and think of all the things I need to buy, but the moment I'm off the clock and go to shop I draw a complete blank.

ooh, must go look.  especially if i can do that on borders.com like i used to when borders.com simply went to amazon.com.  the deals are much better on amazon - but i can no longer use my Borders cards there.  :(

I did that last time I went into BAM, left with nothing. Probably because I have 400 paranormal romances and a few horrors on my TBR shelves.

Yep.  Back at Christmas, my son gave me a giftcard to B&N and when I got there, I couldn't find anything I wanted!  How horrible is that?  I didn't just want to blow it just to be spending it.  Took me several weeks to spend it.

I always draw a blank when I go into a music store.  I always think I want this CD or that CD untilI get in there and I'm like "um can't think of anything"

I'm glad I'm not the only one! lol I have B&N closest to me so that's where I usually cruise the aisles, all excited, choose some books and then put them back and leave with nothing because I can't decide!  I even do that with a gift card, which we get from work for various things ocassionally.

I think some of my issue is that I volunteer at an FOL bookstore and our inventory is huge with books coming and going all the time.  I keep playing the "what if" game when I'm set to  buy a new book. "What if" this book comes in tomorrow on my shift? Or something along those lines.

Borders Bucks is what you eventually get from using the reward card.  once you've spent a certain amount, they email you that you've got Borders Bucks to spend.  i looked it up, and after spending $150, you get $5 in Borders Bucks to spend.  free book money!  but they mail you at the beginning of the month, and it's only good until the end of the month.  (so hopefully they send me a 25% off coupon soon, so i can get a practically free paperback!)
