I have ordered over 200 books here at PBS and sent out even more.  I have received every one in the past two years until this summer!  Now in the past month and a half I had 3 go missing and it looks like another one (with 2 books in that order) is about to be reported missing.  One of the missing orders even at a DC number.  I called my post office to complain and she looked up the DC but then she said the sender would have to complain on their end!  The book was never scanned again after it was orignally sent.  SHe also said she would speak to my carrier.

UG!  I am soooo frustrated.  I continue to order books but I worry that people will be sending some in vain.  I feel so bad every time a book gets lost and now 4 orders in 3 months.  I have received others in that time though.  I get about 2 a week.

Any suggestions?

Are the books coming from Hawaii, Alaska, PR, Virgin island, APO because they can take a loooong time to get to their destination via Media mail.

I live in HI and books I've sent have taken up to 7 weeks to get to their new owner.

Even with DC, the initial scan often does not show on the USPS tracking for 2-3 weeks while the book takes a slow cruise across the Pacific.

No none of the books were coming from far away - Virginia, Maryland, Arizona

I pray every time I order one now that it actually comes to me.  I am beginning to wonder if my postman just got tired of all of my media mail!  Like I said, I have gotten two a week for the past 2 years with no problems at all!

I'm in Hawaii too and I feel so bad that some of the people I have sent books to haven't gotten them yet.   I think that they are taking an around the island cruise first and then maybe someone is paddling them on a canoe to California.  I just got a book that someone sent first class mail and it got here in 2 days!  From now on, I'm sending first class so other people can get their books sooner.  The cost difference is only a couple cents usually.  I'm pretty new on here and so didn't realize that media mail is the true "snail mail".  I just actually read some previous discussions and so live and learn right?  Although, the USPS sure has been having more problems recently than before.

It may just be the law of averages catching up to you, or you've just hit a chunk of senders who didn't send the books when they said they did, or at all. It happens. If none of the books that you are sending are going lost, then I doubt you have a problem on your end.

Sylvia - I can understand the books resistance to leaving Hawaii, I'd fight it too ;-)
