I have a book that has been requested by a user with some specific condition requests.  The main concern is smoke, and my home is not a smoking one, so that should be good.

However, the cover of the book has been torn.  I have taped it back together, but there is some cover missing.  Otherwise, the binding is tight and the pages are clean, the corners are spread somewhat.  This is in good usable condition, but not new condition.  Is there a way to contact the requestor to see if this is acceptable?

Thanks for the input.

So, is the tear less than 1 inch, and/or is the missing part of the cover less than about 1 square inch? Because if they are larger, the book is not postable.

The tape is OK as long as it is not fixing a rip larger than 1 inch.

You can PM the requestor and ask them if they want it.   I know I get a lot of requests turned down and when I see the reason (if they supply one) it often has nothing to do with my actual conditions.    This frustrates me because my conditions don't mean that I only want perfect books, they just mean that I don't want certain books.

Since your book meets their conditions, you can say that and accept the request, then you will get the PM button. If the cover does not meet posting guidelines, then you need to accept RC and then mark you cannot mail the book. Repairing unpostable damage does not make the book postable again so read the Help Center section on book condition and make sure that the book meets posting guidelines. If not, you can always offer it in the Book Bazaar.

I have replied that the book doe not meet the condition request, and wrote about the condition in the ensuing prompts.  Does that information go to the original requestor, and does she have a chance to accept the book after that, or is this the end of the road?

I am learning about the condition issues and postability as time goes by.  The book is a textbook for homeschoolers;  I would think that the right family would not mind the cover damage.  I think the missing part is slightly larger than one square inch, and the tear is hard to measure; it is along a spot where the cover was bent.

Thanks for your input.  I can't wait for some of my wishlist to become available!

Take a look at the posting guidelines, they can be found here:  http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=205

I'm sure if you listed your unpostable textbooks in the homeschool forum someone would snap them up.  You just cannot post unpostables to your shelf.
