I have just added the following condition to my account for reasons that are explained in the condition itself. Does this sound OK or does anyone have ideas to tweak it to make it better? I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia which in my case includes arthritis in my knuckles. I would appreciate it if you do NOT use an excessive amount of tape or wrapping materials on any book you may send me as I have found that they are becoming increasingly hard for me to open. This is simply a request and not a condition - I am not going to "ding" anyone for overwrapping a book! Thanks for reading this! |

Sounds fine to me, especially noting that it's a simple request, not a "condition".... as some people don't like any conditions. I'd have to be careful- I use A LOT of tape....must be over-compensating from when I was a kid and my stepdad would get mad when I used a regular amount of tape- it was "wasteful"- only tiny bits of tape are necessary, according to him. So I guess now I'm at the other extreme!

I understand the spirit of your request, but like Julie said, are you prepared to receive wet, ripped books or no books at all? Would you ask for your credit back if a book wrapper came undone and the book was damaged? You gotta put yourself in the shoes of the sender. I probably would turn your book request down, not because I would be offended, but tape is very important in protecting the packages and I'd feel bad for sending you a book that I've sealed up very well in tape. JMHO. Sorry about your diagnosis. |

Randi my thoughts are with you and I think you worded that great. I once received a book that was so heavily taped I had to use scissors to break a hole into the package and then slice it open and I ended up slicing the book cover. I haven't had any books torn in shreds that weren't overloaded with tape. If rain is an issue, most folks wrap in plastic wrap anyways. I would rather have a book that I can get into instead of ruining them due to obsessive tapers! |

Randi, if I read you condition, I would go to the trouble to use a bubble mailer for you. I can get them 2/$1 at the dollar store. Not everyone would do that, but even if they just leave some corners untaped, it could help you get the scissors in there to get the book open. I would leave the condition exactly as it is. If someone is really nervous and turns you down, oh well. |

Sounds fine to me. :) Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Hope you can find treatment that helps! |

I certainly would send you the book in a bubble mailer, no problem. But I think the condition is wordy and gives way more information than is needed. It would be easier to read if you simply said: I have a condition that makes it difficult to unwrap books with an excessive amount of tape. Would you please take this into consideration when wrapping a book to me? This is simply a request, not a condition. JMO The longer and more detailed the condition the more unlikely it is to be read. |

I think the less wordy version is better. I wouldn't have any problem at all using a bubble mailer if we ever swaped books. |

I think it's a great idea! I have a similar problem and have struggled and struggled to open the wrappers and have also sliced through book covers trying to cut the wrappers off. I would hope this would not cause a problem for other members, but the pain that the struggle causes me isn't fun. |
