Im so confused about how wishlist works. Am i correct in saying that the only way to see if a book you have is WL is while on your TBR list? So how would I know if one of my posted books was WL? Or does it automatically notify them when something is posted?

you can also pull the book up by ISBN and it will tell you if any members are wishing for the book in the details without putting it on your TBR shelf.

When you pull up a description there is a line on the right under versions etc that says Members Wishing and either 0 or a number.  If anything other than 0 then someone has the book on their wish list

thank you so much for that tidbit. I will try that later :)

So does that mean that if i were to add a book my shelf that is WL, it would notify me that its on someones WL and not just sitting on my shelf??

Michele,

If you post a book that is on the WL, the system automatically offers it to the requester.  You will get a notification that the book has been requested.

and it will show on your account page if the book has been accepted (auto accept by the wisher) or is pending on their wish list since they get 48 hours to accept.

And you cannot remove a book from your shelf once it's been offered to a wisher.  You have to wait until they accept the request and then cancel it or put your shelf on vacation to keep it from going to the next wisher if it's about to time out.  So posting books just to see if they are WL isn't a good idea. (eta: not saying you intend to to this, just putting it out there)

I use the TBR feature because I don't like having books on my shelf that I'm not ready to send. But some people use the bookshelf hold thing.  This is where you put your shelf on vacation, post books and then put them on individual hold before coming off vacation. (might be another way to do this).  The books with wishers will have a W next to them and you can then unhold them as you want to post them into the system.  I personally just prefer to have them on my TBR and post them from there.

All good info.  I wanted to add that if you search for an ISBN and there is a blue and white "order this book" button, then you know there are other copies posted (or at least one other copy) so the book is not a wish list book.  If there is no "order" button, then the book will have the smaller blue and white "+ wish list" button, and also, as Leslie described above, it will show the number of wishers.  If it shows 1 or above, then when you post your book, it will not be placed on your bookshelf.  (Actually, I was told that it appears on the bookshelf for a fraction of a second... but that's TMI.)  Instead, it will go onto your My Account page and will be on the "Wish List Hold" tab, waiting for the requestor to respond.  The exception is if the book is on "auto-request" on the wisher's wish list.  Then it goes onto your bookshelf for 1 hour.  There will be a tiny gray exlamation point next to it, and if you let your mouse hover over that gray circle, it will say that it's pending a wish list request, or some such thing.  After an hour, it will move to your My Account page.

I think they did away with that 1 hour hold....the last few books I have posted that had an auto-accept WL were available for me to accept right away.

Thanks for that info, Leslie.  Makes me want to post a WL book and try it out!
