Last week I received a book, marked it received, and (grin) read and finished and reposted it the same day.

Today, I received a copy of the same book. The sender is the one to whom I gave credit to last week.

I reviewed the transaction archive, and there was no "timed out" or cancelled copy of the same book. In other words, I requested it 2/2, she mailed from NY 2/4, and I marked it received 3/4.

Here is the detail:

Request Date: 2/2/2011 10:10 PM ET
Date Accepted: 2/4/2011 3:20 PM ET
Wrapper Printing(s):

  • 2/4/2011 3:21 PM ET
  • 2/26/2011 7:11 PM ET

Date Mailed: 2/4/2011 3:21 PM ET
Date Received: 3/4/2011 1:30 PM ET
USPS DC#: 9449010200817000022742

  11. 3/7/2011 9:36 AM ET - Notice Left - HONOMU, HI
  12. 3/7/2011 9:41 AM ET - Delivered - HONOMU, HI

The only funny thing is the two wrapper printings: 2/4 and 2/26. (correction: funny #2 is that it was marked delivered in Honomu 2/28, then sent back to Honolulu two days later......)

If someone accepted and then failed to mark it mailed, would that not show in the transaction archive as a book yet to be received?

Of course, I'm glad that the proper person got credit, I just don't know from where the second copy came.

That is strange. If there are no cancelled or timed out copies in your TA, the only other thing I can think of is that she maybe had two copies of the book and somehow sent them both to you, but that sounds like a rather big mix-up for a person to make.

But, if another member had accepted the request and failed to mail the book, it would be in your TA, so I'd expect you could find it there. So, the fact you didn't says something.

I suppose she may have actually forgotten that she had two copies to start, and thought she'd forgotten to mail the book, so mailed the second copy to you as well. That's quite a bit of forgetfulness, but is very possible.

They may have had two copies of the book and printed out the wrong label for the second copy.   I'd send them a PM about it.  Looks like the sender needs to check their account.

If they ask you to mail it, you should get a credit or postage.

If it's not in your Transaction Archive as a timed-out book, then the sender probably had 2 copies of the book.  Instead of printing the wrapper for the second person they'd posted it to, they reprinted your wrapper and send you the book twice.

Definitely PM the sender and tell them you got 2 copies.  I bet they meant to send 1 copy each to two people.

If the other member wants the second copy back or for you to send it to the correct person, then they either need to give you credits up front to cover the postage or the postage money.
