A member requested a book from me, I accepted, printed the address and had the book ready to mail. Then I got a pm from that member saying she had received the book and thanking me for the book [which I hadn't yet mailed]. What happened? Did her request somehow get bumped to another member who then sent her the book? I don't know if she has the option of receiving books from members closer to her. Would that override a direct request from someone's shelf? I thought if a request was made to a member's shelf, that would be the only one that would have the address. Does anyone have an answer? I don't want this to happen again if there's some way to prevent it. Thanks for the help. Shirley

Yes Shirley. The most likely scenario is that your requester had requested a book. The original sender probably forgot to mark the book 'mailed' *or* the book was delayed enroute and was marked 'lost' in the system. Either scenario will eventually time-out and the request will roll over to the next member offering the book...you. The requester didn't look closely, and just marked the book 'received' from who-ever appeared on her incoming tab (you). Check your transaction archive, did you receive a credit for the book? Nothing you can do to prevent this happening in the future, the errors were made by other members (either the first sender or the receiver). I'm thinking if the receiver should do something, like double check her transaction archive. Last Edited on: 7/13/12 1:58 AM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

Denise nailed it. The first sender likely forgot to mark the book mailed (or hit "cancel" by accident) so her request was passed on to you. If you haven't applied postage yet, and you are willing to forego sending the book, please go down to the bottom right corner of any page here. Under "company" click on "contact us." Use the Feedback option there to tell the Admin Team what happened. Ask them if they will cancel the transaction from the requestor's side. That way you will keep your place at the top of the sending line, and her request won't be passed on to a new sender. You can ask the Admin Team to give the credit back to the requestor, and to tell her how to mark the book from the canceled transaction received from her transaction archive. You can probably leave the wrapping on your book with a post-it note as to what it is. When you get another request, you'll print a new wrapper for it. If you've applied postage, you can't get that refunded, so you may decide to mail the book. (It's totally your decision.) In that case the requestor will get 2 copies of the book, and is only obligated to mark yours received, which she has already done.

Thanks, Denise & Patty. I didn't receive a credit and I went ahead and canceled the order. I'm not worried about losing my place in line. When I canceled, the box poped up asking why I canceled and I explained it there, so TPTB know why I canceled. No postage involved so I'm just not going to worry about it. And hope it doesn't happen again...but if it does at least I'll know why. Shirley
