This isn't a big deal (unless of course the person doesn't get the book).  But I was confused by these scans.

  • 9/30/2015 11:55 AM - Acceptance - LIBERTY CENTER,OH
  • 9/30/2015 10:10 PM - Electronic Shipping Info Received - LIBERTY CENTER,OH
  • 10/1/2015 2:28 AM - Enroute - ALLEN PARK,MI
  • 10/1/2015 9:05 AM - Arrival at Unit - WHITTEMORE,MI
  • 10/1/2015 9:26 AM - Sorting / Processing Complete - NATIONAL CITY,MI
  • 10/1/2015 9:36 AM - Out for Delivery - NATIONAL CITY,MI
  • 10/2/2015 1:39 PM - Delivered - WHITTEMORE,MI

The person's address is listed as National City, MI.  Why would it be delivered to Whittemore, MI and not the person's city?  Unless maybe they have a postal box?

Seen several of these lately, not sure if they are mis-deliveries or something else.  Is it possible this is the same unit?...maybe there's been a name change but only part of their software was updated?

Checking Wikipedia, National City is an unincorporated community ... maybe Whittemore is the actual town?  On the two maps, they appear to be located in about the same area.

Odd scans tho.

It could also be one of those situations where a single Post Office building serves two adjacent ZIP codes. Scanners are probably set to one zip or the other, and someone just grabbed the wrong one.

You can see the actual ZIP codes that go with each scan if you paste the tracking number in the box at USPS.com.

since you have the scans showing where the package has gone go back to that page and look for the tab that shows what cities are in a zip code. Put the zip code you have in the little search box to see what cities are in that zip code. Most likely national City and Whittemore have the same zip code.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm not sure what happened but the person got the book, and that's all that matters.

It is a widespread glitch, there are phantom scans showing up for a LOT of people from cities that are not possible, as though the package is two places at once.

I was informed by a clerk that the DC #'s are reused and that is why you get funky scans. They call them ghost scans

Must be what is happening now,  I have a book on its way to me (I'm in Ohio) coming from FL.  It went from Florida all the way to Bell Gardens, CA.  I can't see why it would need to go that way lol

I've noticed a few wonky scans that seem to go past a place then go back and leave again.  Almost as if they never leave but got scanned to leave.  I've had at least 3 packages in the last few months do this.  Gliches would explain it though.

Karen I hope you got your book ok!  Some books go into Bell Gardens and take days to come out if they ever do, that stop point is notorious for slowing down media mail at least it has been in the past!

Yes I did get the book!  I have heard bad things about Bell Gardens also.
