Sorry about that, I hit post before I could edit it.

Anyway: my question is about a book I mailed on September 18th that was not marked received. I mailed it first class so I'm thinking it should have arrived at it's destination by now. Should I PM the receiver or let it go until the middle of October?

Well, it's official: my book is MIA according to PBS. I'm bummed for the person that ordered the book and for myself for spending the money on postage and mailing materials. This is my first bad experience on here, I hope it's the last.

Let it go.  They are already getting the automatic e-mails sent by PBS asking if they have received the book.

If you were going to send an e-mail, I would wait and send just one e-mail shortly before the book is scheduled to go lost.

Thanks for the response Lynne. I thought I would let it go, but I just wanted some else's input. :)

I agree with Lynne.  I never PM about a book until just a couple of days before it's scheduled to go lost.

If you used DC and it's scanned as delivered, I'd probably give it a week past that delivery date before PMing.

It cant hurt to ask.......Pm them and ask if they have received it yet........ I usually just say  "I was just curious if you had received your book yet?". The two people I sent this too....one was on vacation and said she would mark it when she got home and the other had forgotten to mark it..........

I didn't use DC, so I think I'll just PM him soon and see where it goes. It just seems strange that a book that was sent on the 18th first class didn't arrive. I just mailed two more books first class two days ago and one person out of two received their books.

I PM a few days before the book is scheduled to go lost.

If a book gets misdirected 1st class can take just as long as media mail.  I had one take 3 wks to go from MD to PA 1st class one time.  I happened to use DC on that one. NOrmally I don't pay attention but it was a book for a virtual box and it was holding up the start of hte next round.  They had sent it to Ill.  Another time on the receiving end one come to me from OH to MD was sent to WA state first.  Again 1st class.  Since they were game books and used hte DC I was able to tell what was going on with them. But the same thing could have happened to yours.  It could have gone on a little tour of hte US.  My postal clerk said it's the bar code that PBS uses under the address. If the paper is wrinkled or the ink smudge or it's just a tiny bit off it can give them the wrong destination and get put in the wrong bin.

I've had several books mailed first class that are taking just as long as media mail (if not longer) lately. They've all arrived, though I had two that came within 3 or 4 days of being lost.  After reading what Mary said, I'm wondering if my printer is getting screwy since I'm very careful about laying the tape flat over the address and bar code.

Anyway, I'd hold off pm'ing until a few days before it goes lost.

O.K. I think I'll just wait until a few days of it being lost. I'm just surprised it hasn't arrived yet because I've never been in this situation.

I'm sure the person really wants their book as well because it's one of those that is highly requested.
