Hi, I just received a request for a couple books. The requestor has conditions on their requests.  No excessive underlining or highlighting. I believe that my books would be okay to send, but I am hesitating here because I would like the opportunity to describe further their condition to the requestor.  There is very minor underlining, a few small ink marks, several remainder marks on the one book. The other book has name on first page, very minor underlining, appears to be on one page only, two sentences. I am just unsure what excessive to this person means, these are older edgar cayce books, and I want to pm the requestor to double check if they are suitable. I don't want to send them if I won't get points for them. My question is am I overlooking some little link or something that allows me to communicate with this person?

Hi - Just an FYI...unless these are textbooks, they are unpostable according to PBS guidelines.  Therefore, you would not be allowed to send them, regardless of whether the underlining is excessive or not.  From the help center:

  • No torn pages
  • No loose or missing pages
  • No writing or highlighting on text pages
    • a signature or note on the flyleaf or inside front or back cover is OKAY
    • an author's signature on the title page is OKAY
    • writing or highlighting on the text pages is NOT OKAY
      • Exception: if it is a textbook or workbook, these are expected to have highlighting/writing
        • if you post a textbook/workbook, the condition must be described to the requestor in a Personal Message
        • AND the described condition MUST BE AGREED TO before the book is sent
        • This is the one of the ONLY two cases in which a PM exchange about a book is required before the book can be sent(the other is for cookbooks--see below).
