Is there a way to download a Kindle book to my PC and convert it to a .pdf format so that I can read it on my Nook? |

I have heard that the free Calibre software will do it, but I haven't done it myself. |

As long as it is not DRMd, Calibre should convert it. I haven't tried it with a Kindle book so I don't know if they have DRM in them. |

thanks. I'll try that and see. |

how can you tell if it's drm'd ahead of time? I did a couple from b&n and they were drm'd dangit... |

I don't know Susanna. I downloaded some in the wrong format from allromanceebooks.com and couldn't convert them because of the DRM. I didn't see any warning that they had the DRM. I emailed their customer service and explained my problem. They were fantastic and allowed me to re-download the ebooks in a different format. That format of the books was not DRMed. Why one format would be and another one not, I don't know. |

Susanna - you have a Nook right? Anything from bn.com shouldn't matter on your nook. |

I don't think you can convert it to a pdf, but you could probably convert it to epub (via Calibre) and put it on the Nook that way. |

I am under the impression that all or most e-books on amazon and b&n are drm'd. From both sources you can download to read on your pc, iphone, ipad & whatever other devices they list. mobileread has a lot of folks who say they never buy drm'd, they can probably give advice on where to get them and how to tell. |
