The Cookie Book Author:Eva Moor, Talivaldis Stubis (Illustrator) A cookbook for kids with 12 cookie recipes, one for each month! This book talks to kids on their level, and helps them learn how to make basic cookie recipes and learn how to navigate the kitchen. — The book begins with friendly advice like "get a grownups permission", "read the recipe all the way thru before you begin", "have a grownup light the... more » oven".
Then it describes the various utensils they may need, such as mixing bowls & spoons, measuring cups & spoons, cookie sheets, pot holders, rolling pin, and several others.
The instructions for each recipe are a little more detailed than they would be for an adult, so that the child understands them well, but the author isn't condescending or making them feel like little children, indeed, they should feel quite grownup when they've made their first batch of cookies.
Be sure to stay close by, but with the instructions in here, you can safely hid in the next room, just in case there's an accident!
There are also tips in the back on how to measure things and sift when necessary, such as flour, brown sugar, shortening and liquids. Also, how to break an egg and ways to combine ingredients.
