If it is an older review, it may be a left-over from before the book description was add-able on the site. Time was the only place to put info was in the review page.

If a review gets enough thumbs down clicks, it will eventually disappear from view.

And yes, agree, the blurb is not a review.

People do that because they were told in the past to do it when the book doesn't have a description. This was before they added the ability to edit the Book Data, I believe, which is now the correct way to add a description to a book.

I agree that it is not a review! If you rate them with a thumbs down, it helps to get them removed eventually.

Yaaaa!!! I get so annoyed when people do that....................usually I do already know what the book is about I want to see if others enjoyed it.

Since often times those are books without the description, please help by copying that old review (description) and then using the Edit Data function to put it where it belongs in the description field. Then go out and mark the review as a thumbs down. That way we preserve the desciption and eventually get rid of the review.

Yes, that's a little annoying but I find the "book cover was not the same" or "came in great shape" ones to be highly irritating. Don't they know they're submitting a review for the book and not their transaction? Ugh.

Or one book I found had a review that basically said she hadn't read it yet and if someone would please post it to her, she'd be thankful. WTF?! I looked at all of her reviews and they were ALL the same. I wish, wish, wish I'd bookmarked it so I could PM her and/or get a bunch of thumbs-down marks on her reviews.

There used to be a thread going where people were postign the ISBN's of books that had a lot of "bad" reviews like that. So others could go and do the thumbs down and help bump them down.  I think you also have to give thumbs ups to actual reviews the help do that but I could be wrong.

yes , that is annoying. Then to have another person do it again , or even a third time...geeze...

But on the flip side , I remember once trying to see what a book was about , and there was nothing. no reveiw , no blurp about it. that was annoying to.

I also hate it when I look to see if people liked the book and find nothing but the info from the back ofd the book.  I  love to see people say I liked it or I didn't like it.

I also make sure I give thumbs up or down depending on the reviews.

Here's that review clean up thread:

Even More Reviews to Clean Up -- Come Join in the Fun!

Hasn't been posted on in almost a year though... But I don't know why it couldn't be updated. Maybe one of the BDC people could bump & update?

I think there's a newer posting, but not positive. Many of the posters in that topic, and the restart of the same topic either before or after, stopped because people complained that we were criticizing reviews that weren't bad, just poor, and we got so much flak, that most of us quit it. If you get told enough times that what you are doing is unappreciated, you will eventually stop. So, they did. The whole purpose of the topic was to do exactly what has been asked for in this topic, to thumbs down the bad reviews that were either back of book blurbs, stupid information about the individuals copy of the book "received in bad shape" "cover is torn" etc.

When this was being done, only the thumbs up reviews were visible unless you clicked to see all the reveiws, and sill is that way on books that were worked on. But, like I said, I doubt if the group that worked on it before would be interested in coming back to start again because of all the rude comments we used to get.

Seriously?  I had no idea that was going on.  I always tried to pitch in & rate reviews when I had time, just to support the effort, but I had no idea that there were people grumbling about it.  I just assumed they'd either help out or ignore it altogether.  Guess no good deed goes unpunished, huh?
