An okay mystery but I thought it went on and on for too long, and some aspects were repeated over and over. The victim gets his comeuppance very early in the story, and it's not until the killer is unmasked that the motive is revealed. A lot of the detecting is done by the local vicar, but thankfully he doesn't evangelize much. One glaring omission is of a map of the area. Even if the original publication omitted it, British Library Crime Classics could had added one.
