"n two words, it is irresistibly readable. I was immediately hooked by the author's ease of recapturing the process of the journey, and the vivid dialogue of the story's principal character. Not many of us are so bold as to move a cottage or follow a dream. The author has given us a highly understandable and dramatic account of one woman's commitment, struggle and passion for a dream. I'm personally inspired. This is a woman worth knowing. I highly recommend." amazon

An enjoyable memoir about a woman who "marries" her house to a cottage, to create a live/work space. Whouley writes well, and the cast of characters - her friends and the various contractors, plumbers and electricians come to life as the story unfolds.

This is an interesting tale of moving a small house and attaching it to another small house to make a bigger house! I learned some construction terms to wow my friends and family with, but I would have been greatly helped in many of the discussions of the logistics of what all was being done to the houses to connect them well if there had been a blueprint of the floor plan included. As a reader I wasn't as intimately familiar with the houses as the author and some of the paragraphs were hard to follow in details of moving walls and windows, etc. Liked her gumption though and the vision to make it all work. Overall, enjoyed very much.

I loved reading how this house creation evolved, from spotting an ad in a newspaper, taking a leap of faith and buying the cottage before even knowing for sure that it was do-able, to actually moving the cottage and marrying it into the house. Fascinating memoir of leaping into a project and seeing it through. Another member in her review complained about how the book would have made more sense with a plan of the house available to her -- she must have missed it, as it is definitely there and you will be consulting it! Lively writing and I recommend this book highly.

I enjoyed this book more than I have any other in a long list of books I have read in the past few years. I can't explain why, but I have added it to my "keeper" shelf. The author writes in a way that brings everything to life. Honestly, I really don't know why, but read it for yourself. Maybe you can explain it.
