This classic tale of revenge was an incredible read, but like revenge itself, left an emptiness. Perhaps that was the author's intention?
If you've seen the recent movie but haven't yet read the book, be prepared for a different ending. The movie takes a typical Hollywood turn, tying loose ends up neatly with a bow, a typical Hollywood-spun happily-ever-after closing. The book, on the other hand, boasts a not altogether unhappy ending, but a less than fairy tale one. The man who lost everything came to financial power and ruined those who'd wronged him. Unlike the movie version, he did not recover that which had been lost to him---he simply destroyed it and walked away.

Truuly a remarkable book by an author of the same category. It is a long book so there is lots of time to enjoy and savour the story.
