Twenty minutes before the start of her wedding, Courtney Adams receives a note from her intended husband. However, the child who delivered the message gave Courtney the wrong one. As she read it, she realized she was marrying a man who did not love her. This letter was to his lover, telling her he would continue the relationship as soon as possible. Courtney suddenly understood why Geoffrey had never tried to kiss her. He was in love with another, but their families had promised the couple to each other years ago. Courtney escaped the wedding and traveled to Montana, where her closest friend Alexandria lived.

Dean Lawton has had a running argument with his younger (married) brother, Randall, about getting Dean married to a mail-order bride. When he goes to town to get supplies and sees an Eastern woman in a wedding dress, Dean thinks his brother ordered her for him and promptly marries her. The next day, when the couple realizes their error, they return to the judge to get an annulment, but the judge refuses. He tells them to return in a month; they must try harder.

It has been several months since I read the first book in this series (see below). Unfortunately, the author continued with the same redundancy as the first book. The inner voices of the lead characters are frustrating. The author could have edited over 50 pages to remove some excess contemplation. However, the final chapter was very romantic.

This was almost a DNF for me as the plot was slow and the main couple were way too stubborn. But I hung in there and it was almost worth it because the final scene turned out to be the true gem of the entire story. In just a few sentences Dean redeemed himself by laying bare his heart with perfect delivery. It just plain melted my heart. 3 stars.
