Hello, I'm new and have ammassed a ton of credits that I'm hoping I can use at my leisure!  I have a wishlist with many books that will have long waits.  Do the credits expire at any point?

Also, can we exchange credit for PBSpostal money?

Credits themselves don't expire, but if you were to let your account go inactive for a year or more, you risk losing any credits in your account with an inactive account.

You cannot turn in credits for PBS money, sorry to say.  If you have more credits than you can use, another option is to go to the Book Bazaar forum and look into selling your credits to other members.  Many members sell off extra credits monthly for extra money in their Paypal accounts, or for Amazon giftcards.  There is a limit of 50 credits transferred between members monthly, so keep that in mind if you are planning to sell.  You'll want to keep enough on hand for any wishes that get granted, and for games you may want to join, or PBS market purchase discounts.

Hope that helps!

Hi Regina--And welcome to PBS!!

Your credits will not expire, so no worries there.

And although you can't sell your credits back to PBS for PBS-money, you can sell them to other members by advertising in the Book Bazaar Forum.  I'm not sure what the going rate is right now, but when I've checked in the past it seems to be around $2.50 to $3.00 per credit (usually depending on how many credits you sell at a time.)  Customary payment methods are Paypal or Amazon Gift Certificates.

ETA--looks like Shelia beat my post by a minute :)

You can also swap credits between Paperback Swap, Swap A DVD and Swap A CD.   They don't have to be spent only on books.

Thanks so much for the welcome and advice Shelia, Laura, and  L. P.!

I had a moment of panic when I'd realized how many books I've swapped in my first week. ( I'm trying to trim my collection to a more reasonable size.)   I'll have no problem keeping active on PBS...I LOVE it here, as a matter of fact I've been wondering where this site has been all my life, LOL.

I'm happy to have some options too!

Thank you Julie!  :D

The wishlist from partly from Amazon (some I suspect might never show up but hope springs eternal) and I'm swapping and wish listing some for my Mom; but I have found some gems here while searching around too that I had to add!  I did hit the 200 mark then trimmed it, haha.

Sorry it's taking me so  long to reply, this is a new forum format to me.

Are you a Warrior Cats fan by chance?  My daughter loves those.

No, I just liked the cat.  :)  Now that I know where it's from I'll check it out.

Good luck with that whole "trimming the collection" thing. I've been here 5 1/2 years and my bookshelves are still brimming over, double and triple stacked. The difference is that now most of them are TBR books and not those I'd already read. Hopefully you'll have more self-restraint than me. LOL

Welcome!

Cheryl

Well, you've been busy your first week here. It took me months to max out my WL. Welcome!

I just sold credits for the first time this month. They're currently going for about 2.50 each and most people ask for payments through paypal or amazon gift cards. Easy!

My experience is the same as Cheryl's.  I joined PBS thinking that I could downsize my book collection...nope--now I actually have quite a few more books than before joining...but the good news is I'm turning the books that I've read into new-to-me books!

Hi Regina!

Saw your post, shopped your very cool bookshelf, ordered books... (bet I missed some good ones)

I'm trying to declutter, but it's not really working.

There are donation programs for extra credits. It looks like I missed the school one and the military one. Does anyone know how often they are open?

Just what does it mean Lots of credits... i have 6 now and that is decent for me

Yes, good luck with the triming down the books!  When I started in 1995, I could fit ALL of my books on a three shelf bookcase-about 8 feet total in length. I now have twelve bookshelves-and each shelf is 4 feet long....and I have overflow too? I actualy have one more shelf I could put up...if I had room!

Thanks again for the welcomes!

I have indeed been busy here with lists and packing books.  Thank goodness I saved all those heavy paper grocery bags.   I've lots of new friends at the post office.  I feel as if I've opened a shop and so do they, lol.  Annoying thing is their computer is working at a snails pace since Friday and not all of my quick credits went through, even though they were all scanned.

Cheryl, I know.  It's going to be difficult to keep my book numbers down; but my collection was long overdue for a re-evaluation even if it's bound to grow again.  Shelf space is too precious for loafers and I was beginning to make high stacks in open corners!   A sure sign of Bibliomania.  :p  Hopefully being able to swap will help.

Thanks so much for your order Lori!   I'll probably be posting some  more, in small batches, as I decide what I can part with (and just how much more I can afford to hit the PO this month).  I checked your wish list and I don't have anything on it but I could happily read most of them!  Very Cool!

Lots of credits = More books than I've ever been able to buy at one time...EVA.  :D   It's not a whole lot in the scheme of things but it seems like it could make a nice small cushion for my wish list.

I  want to add, I didn't want it to seem like I was bragging about credits, that was not my intention.  I'm just kind of amazed by all my book trimming and didn't want to see those credits expire for all that.  :)

Welcome to PBS Regina.  Your credits will not expire, so order whenever you wish!

Excellent wishlist, most newbies take awhile to fill theirs up.  Way to go http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/icon_hurra2.gif
