I've got about 10 credits now, and I seem to accumulate credits faster than I use them.

Should I put my account on vacation hold?  Will everything else work just as before (e.g. availability of wish list books, etc.)?

Thanks,

If you go on vacation hold, you'll only get offered books on your wishlist if they are on auto-request.

Yes, and you'll stay in the same place in line for the books on your WL which are not on auto request.  In other words, if you are #1 in line for a book and put your WL on hold, you'll stay number one but will be skipped over when this book is posted until you take your account off hold.

You can accumulate as many credits as you want.  Unless you don't want to ship more books, there's no reason to go on vaca hold.

You should join swapadvd.   It's certainly taken care of any excess credit problem I might have had...   :-)

That's interesting, Lisa D - I didn't know that. So, i fyou are #2 and it's offered, you won't move up to #1 even though it wasn't offered to you? I'll have to make sure I have everything on auto next time I go on vacation hold! Kind of a pain, though, if you have multiple versions of a book on the WL.....

I was thinking about doing this for the same reason, but decided not to since postal rates are about to go up - I decided I'd rather mail now and get credits at the lower postage rate :-P  and "spend" them later. Something to think about...

Right, I don't want to ship any more books for a while, because I'm thinking I'll never use up all the credits I'm accumulating.

I guess I could just check all the books on my shelf, and put them on hold -- any problems with that?

No - don't do that!  I'm pretty sure that when you repost/unhold them, you will be back at the end of the FIFO line.  You're better off putting your account on vacation hold!

ETA - if you truly have to many credits you can always sell them in the book bazaar.  Just another idea for ya!  Although I am having a hard time understanding.  How can you ever have TOO many credits?  LOL  :-)

I don't think that will happen Amy, about being put at the end of the FIFO line.  I think you just get skipped over.  It's not as though you are deleting your books from your bookshelf and reposting them.  I will see what I can dig up in the help section to make sure.

Yea, I just checked the HC to see if I could find the answer for sure and I couldn't find anything.  I just sent a feedback to ask.

I believe if you put your books on hold, they stay in the same place;  no going back to the end of the line.  THey only go back to the end of the line if you delete them and then readd them

Anyone who has too many credits can post them for sale under Book Bazaar or give them away as a RAOK.  :0)

Ok, so I just tried putting a book on hold on my shelf and your choices are hold, then "post", not hold/unhold.  This is why I think you get booted to the end of the FIFO.  I could be wrong, but that's my educated guess for the day.  When I get a response back from my feedback I will post it here.

Amy, I couldn't find anything either way, so you might be right.  That is kind of confusing....when I think of "hold", I think of something temporary....if it actually removes you from the line completely, then that's totally different.  Imagine if people are putting some of their books on hold before they offer a deal because they wanted to exclude them from the deal, not knowing that they are actually removing them entirely, or similar scenarios.  Definitely let us know when you hear back and hopefully they will update the help section on that one.

I hope you get an answer. I asked that over on SaCD but no one knew there.

I am pretty sure individual book holds does move the book to the end of FIFO. I thought the same thing, it would just hold you in status quo on your place in FIFO, so I tested it on a book that had a fairly short line and I hadn't posted that long ago. It moved my post date as soon as I put it on hold and when I took it off, it had the current date as the posted date. I have seen one Tour Guide post that it does move you to the end. I wish they would clarify that in the HC because I would have never guessed it would do that.

I have my account on hold right now. I would really like to still get book orders but I had to stop the WL offers from coming in until I catch up on the TBR pile.  I have around 40 credits so I don't really need any orders right now.  The help docs say if you put your account on vacation hold they stay in their fifo place and even move up the line.  It would just mean that if your next up in FIFO and the books ordered, it'll keep going to the next person until you unhold your books.

You can put your WL books on auto request and then put your account on hold for a while.  Then when you've used up some credits or have some cash for postage, you can unhold your books.  I can't imagine not being able to find 10 books to order.  I would feel like 10 wasn't a big enough WL cushion for me.

If you put books on hold, the date changes on them to when you put them on hold, so yes, you go to the end of the FIFO line.

If you put your whole account on vacation hold it doesn't put it at the end of the FIFO line. I checked on this before I put mine on hold.  It does if you put individual books on hold.

yup Mary, that is what Lane and I were saying. Al mentioned putting them on individual hold in a later post instead of the vacation hold as he mention in his OP. We were warning him to not do that, because it could take him out of the FIFO line where his orginal plan would not. Guess we weren't clarifying. The bugger of it is that the HC on the new individual hold does not make it clear that it will affect your shelf differently than the Vacation Hold. Many of us didn't think it would make a difference until too late.

Whole shelf on Vacation Hold = FIFO OK

Individual books on Hold (with Hold button) = shouldn't lose place in FIFO line?? but...

Now I don't know what to think!  Here's the message I sent to feedback:

If you put a book on hold on your bookshelf, do you lose your place in
the FIFO line when you take it off of hold? I don't think this
addressed in the help docs - I couldn't find anything about this.

Thanks!
Here's the response:
Dear Amy,

No, you don't lose your place. The system will keep track of it for
you.

I hate to say it, but I think whoever answered is wrong, or didn't understand what I was asking. So confused!!!!!!
(sorry for the formatting - no matter what I do I can't fix it!)

Thanks for posting that Amy - even though it confuses the issue more, it gives us an answer from them. Maybe it is changing the post date, but not the position in line? It would be nice to find out for sure! This new feature offers some interesting unanswered questions.

I just posted that question in a PM to Sherry N (a tourguide in the live help), as soon as she responds I'll post the reply.

ETA:  Sheri said she'd post something here but, it wouldn't be conclusive...I've also sent the question to the "Contact Us"  wordered slightly different from Amy's to see if someone else would give us a clearer answer.  Maybe if enough of us bug them something will be put in the Help Center
