My daughter has a senior project to complete for high school by the the middle of the 2011-2012 school year and has decided to collect crocheted squares over the summer and then assemble them into afghans for distribution to community organizations that help the needy. I am putting out a call to see if anyone would be willing to donate a square or two to the cause. The nice thing is that each square only takes a small amount of yarn -- leftover yarn,off colors, etc. are fine, as are any patterns, granny squares, double crochet, single crochet, etc.

She is looking for 8-in. squares made from medium weight acrylic yarn and will be assembling each group of 48 into afghans that are 6x8 sqaure (finished size 48x64 inches).

I plan to put this in the Club Members Thoughts forum as well, but wanted to post here because it's a crafting section.
