I had a book to go out today that was over the 13 oz limit but I had put DC on it. The postal clerk tried to charge me the full DC rate and I kept trying to explain that I only owed the amount on the label as I had already payed some of the DC here. She would have none of it and I ask here to verify it. Well the postmaster agreed with her, but I knew I was right on this as there are thousands of PBS books moving every month. Finally I had to go talk to the postmaster himself and to his credit he got on the computer and called the district office and finally it was straight after about 20 minutes. My time is worth much more than that but sometimes when someone just doesn't do right I have to pursue it. The moral is, if you have one over 13 oz. and doing DC, print the postage from here so there will be one less chance for people to get involved and screw things up. Also I could have probably saved a lot of time if I could have just convinced her to just scan the thing, the computer knows what is going on even when the people are brain dead. thanx for letting me vent and I hope this saves someone some hassle. I think part of your problem might have been your explanation to them, you didn't pay part of the cost here. You pay a fee here for the right to print an electronic DC. Then you pay the .18 electronic DC charge there. Always have them scan it, the computer will get it right. My PO guys have never once had a problem with DC regardless of the size and have actually argued with me that I could use FC with DC on a thin book I had as FC because it was under the 3/4 inch, but was wrapped tight enough to be stiff so he insisted I use FC because it was cheaper. Hopefully you have educated them so they will get it right for you in the future. Last Edited on: 1/31/08 10:15 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I use the pre-printed postage now. The one time I brought a bunch of orders with just the DC printed out-they were all confused and over charged me on every package. Of course this was at the satellite PO. I brougth a BOB order to the regular PO last week and I had no problem. |

I always tell them they're going to have to scan it if they want to charge me for it. Some of them act like if they scan it, it will explode. Most of the local PO workers have it down now. |
