I love the Maggie O'Dell series, it's one of my personal favorites. I like Maggie's character, I love the profiling aspects to these books. But this one was a little bit of a disappointment to me. I had a major issue with how it was written: Maggie seemed to me to be a secondary character in this book. She's the main character, she needs to be portrayed as the main character! For whatever reason, Ms. Kava kept jumping back and forth with the other characters leading the story, rather than Maggie. I like Maggie's character, I was disappointed that she seemed to have such a small role in this particular book. Now, that's not to say that I didn't enjoy the book, because I did. But, I only gave it a 4 star rating because of Maggie's character having what seemed to me like such a minor role.

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. Alex Kava has covered a subject I wasn't even aware of,
and has done it in suspense of a hurricane. She is one
of my favorite authors.

It pains me to say this as a huge Alex Kava fan, this book is horrible! It must have been too quickly written, it is sloppy, too brief and so predictable that I don't think I got 50 pages before knowing the entire plot, the only ting I didn't know was that it would wrap up un believably in two pages. Save your credit and your time, forget about this one.

I'm just not finding this book as exciting as her other novels. It just can't seem to keep my interest. I find myself reading a few chapters and putting it down to go do other things. With only 259 pages, this should have been a quick read but after three days I was still only halfway through it. You would think with a category 5 hurricane and a cooler filled with body parts, this would be an exciting fast paced book - so not the case.

It finally picked up the pace and got interesting though not exciting. All in all not as good as usual but not a bad story either.

I'll give this a weak I like it rating just because I like the author and the Maggie series, however, this one seemed to lack something--as I kept reading I had the feeling I had read it before so I think the storyline is not a new one and it has been used in other books before this one. If you want a short quick afternoon read then I'd recommend this one, the chapter are short and you'll through by the end of the day.

The Maggie O'Dell series is one of my favorites but I feel like this particular book has been my least favorite of the series.

I feel like Kava wrote this book in a hurry and threw together a topic. After the first couple chapters I had already figured out the book and how it was probably going to end. Usually Kava's books have a great twist or you just can't figure it out till the end. Sadly I was disappointed this time.

FBI Agent Maggie O'Dell is sent to Florida to investigate a fishing cooler that was found by the Coast Guard. The cooler contained a foot, three hands, and a torso; each individually wrapped in plastic. An autopsy of the torso helps Maggie discover the identity of a man who disappeared from the Atlantic coast earlier in the year during a hurricane. How did he end up in a cooler floating in the gulf? With a new hurricane bearing down on the Florida panhandle, Maggie only has hours before she must evacuate the area.

I thought the eighth book in the Maggie O'Dell series was very uneven. We knew who the villain was pretty much from the beginning, so there was really no guess work. This story was told from the point-of-view of several characters. Many chapters ended abruptly. I wanted to continue the scene, but the story would pick up hours later. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer Liz Bailey played just as big a part as Maggie. I wouldn't mind reading more about Liz. Maybe Kava could write a series featuring her character. My rating: 3 Stars.
