Andre Dubus is one of my favorite short story writers of all time. His stories are wonderful stories about human relationships, about misunderstandings and love and family and friendship and sin and redemption.
If you like Raymond Carver, you should definitely read Dubus (although they are different). Dubus is known as a writer who is a Catholic. You might not recognize the Catholic influence on his stories if you are not Catholic.

Dubus has (or sadly, had) a great knack for storytelling.
I love the spiritual aspect of his writing, though I would never classify him as a "religious" writer. His characters simply have a spiritual side to them, and that often plays into his stories. I love the flawed, humanness of his characters.
