This book comfortably moves along in chapters of its major characters' descriptions rather than the usual chronological sequence of events found in most books. This allows the reader a full understanding of each character and his/her motives instead of bits and pieces here and there. The last 1/3 of the book was a complete surprise.

Wonderfully descriptive, I feel well traveled. The people were exciting and the reader really cared about them. The ending was unexpected and intricate in twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book.

Charismatic millionaire Sebastian Locke, the powerful patriarch of an esteemed American family, is a man renowned for his charm and intelligence. Committed to relieving the suffering of those in genuine need, he gives away millions every year to the poor, the sick, and the innocent victims of natural disasters and wars. Who would have wanted to kill the world's most beloved philanthropist?

Vivienne Trent, a journalist, had been fascinated by Locke as a child, married him when she was a young woman, then later divorced him, but had always stayed close to him. Aware that ther had been another side to this enigmatic man, she sets out to find the truth about his death -- and life. Following a twisted trail of secrets that winds from Connecticut to Provence,to Paris, to London, and Africa, Vivienne uncovers startling revelations that will turn her life around -- as once again master storyteller Barbara Taylor Bradford sweeps readers into the dazzling, turbulent life of a fascinating family -- their love, lust, passion, ambition, jealousy, and pain.
