I just love Anne Perry's books! I always wait eagerly for the next installment in the series. Intricate plot and wonderful characters- this one was no different.

Anne Perry is one of my favorite authors and this book is no disappointment. On a patrol boat near Waterloo Bridge, police superintendent William Monk notices a young couple engaged in an intense discussion. Seconds later, the two plunge to their deaths in the icy water of the Thames. Was it an accident, a suicide, or a murder? That's the mystery that Monk, aided by Hester, must solve in this novel.

English narrator talks the listeners back into the early 1900's. Development of a modern sewer system brings about a sprinkling of suspicious deaths and suicides. Social standing outweighs common sense and justice..One wealthy family is divided by vengeance and greed. Author did a great job of building the characters into likable or interesting people to care about. Slow in the beginning but suspenseful after disc two. Surprising and informative throughout. Dangerous jobs trump the love stories.
