Sylvia Thorpe is one of my favorite storytellers. This 1973 paperback is set in 1653, during the reign of Oliver Cromwell and the height of the witch hunt craziness. Bronwen was unprotected after the death of her foster father, and in short order her kinsmen seized her inheritance, burned her father's books and sent her into hiding. Benedict Forde, a returned soldier, saved her from being drowned for a witch and they spent an idyllic summer with the gypsies, until reality intruded again.

This book has a slightly different flavor than Thorpe's Georgians and regencies due to the 17th century language, but I thought it a good old fashioned romantic adventure read.
