This departure from his earlier books is a fast-paced thriller.
I like Bernhardt's books anyway, but this new female detective and her autistic/savant friend make an interesting pair of investigators. Throw in alcoholism, lost custody of a niece, and the murders of young women in Las Vegas and you have a story worth staying up all night for.
In bright and brassy Las Vegas, detective Susan Pulaski unravels deviant minds. But when a killer begins decorating Sin city with the disfugured bodies of beautiful young women, Pulaski's own demons go on a binge. A violent incident earns her a pink slip and a trip to detox.
Things seem hopeless as Pulaski desperatley tries to regain her job and good reputation-until Darcy O'Bannon, a twenty five year old autistic avant, forces her to view the serial murders from a new perspective. Thanks to Darcy's astonishing skills, Pulaski is now the key player in a desperate hunt for a killer and in more danger than she knows. For the man she seeks is watching her, seduced by her frailties and strenghts, her beauty and boldness. To finish his masterwork of horror, her needs her........
I just fiished this book and enjoyed it a great deal. It is quite unlike all of Bernhardt's other books, mostly legal thrillers.

Another excellent mystery/suspense by Mr. Bernhardt
