This is one of the better Carpathian novels by Ms. Feehan. At the end of Dark Celebration Manolito De La Cruz had been injured so badly that it took the great healer, Gregori, to pull his soul back from the dead. At the beginning of this book, part of Manolito's soul is still in the shadow world. His lifemate, MaryAnn is the only thing anchoring him to the real world. He is concerned that instead of her bringing him into the real world, he will drag her into the shadow world. The whole shadow world concept was interesting - kind of like purgatory. I liked it. I also liked how strong MaryAnn was even though she was completely out of her element in the Rain Forest (although the whole freaking out because she was wearing dumpy clothes thing was totally ridiculous!)

I love reading about Christine Feehan's Carpathians. This is the 18th installment - the story of Mary Ann and Manolito. I love how both the male and female characters are strong in their own ways - Mary Ann is quite the pistol! This one seemed a little darker than the others, but kept me captivated with the story. I enjoyed having Vlad & Sarantha in this one, and it just wasn't a flash back to a point in history - they were actually in it and a part of the story.

This story was very interesting. Some questions about the Carpathians were answered. And, in great Feehan manner--more questions were raised. A pretty good read.

What Can I Say!
There is always a little something extra, that unexpected twist.
Carpathian meets Wolf. He vs She can they merge.
Plots and counter plots abound. Good read all around.
This leads into the next book of Solange and Zacarias.

Every time I think this series can't get any better or have any more subplots, Feehan tops all my expectations. This book is fabulous! The shadow world and the visit with the former Prince of the Carpathians was an interesting twist. Manolito's guilt over his & his brother's plot to overthrow said Prince and the forgiveness he received was heartwrenching. I look forward to finding out more about Ivory/Razvan & Zacharais/Solange.

Story of Manolito & Maryann takes place in South American rain forest. Manolito is trapped half in the spirit world and half in the real world. Someone in the real world must hang onto and protect his body whule he wanders and fights in the spirit world.

The De La Cruz brothers mixed with the Jaguar people make for an exciting book. Add the 'shadow world' that Manolito is 'stuck' in, and the plot is another can't-put-down-til-its-done book!

With "Dark Possession," Feehan continues the storyline of the DeLaCruz brothers, this time focusing on Manuel (Manolito). Back in Brazil, after a near fatal attack, Manuel knows he has a lifemate but cannot remember what happened or where she might be. MaryAnn Delany, the counselor for battered women that we have seen in previous books, has agreed to accompany the DeLaCruz family to their home to try and help a brutalized young jaquar girl, but she is totally confused at her overwhelming grief over the near death of Manuel, a man she doesn't even know.

With this installment, we are back to the excitement and volatile love matches we have come to adore in this series. Both Manuel and MaryAnn are characters we can love easily. Of course, as a DeLaCruz and a Carpathian, Manuel exhibits an overabundance of obnoxious, chauvinistic behavior. MaryAnn is also the stereotypical strong woman who fights that dominance but here, there is a unique twist that draws a whole different storyline into play. It's fun and interesting to read about yet another great line of species being introduced, this time one we all know and love!

*For those not prone to steam, this one will require sections where skimming 3-5 pages at a time in advised.*

New bloodlines are revealed and past Lifemates. Hints at future lifemates and a whole new ballgame for our couple. The De La Cruz brothers are strong, noble and oh so yummy and there are still two of them left without lifemates.
