So... is it worth it?  I've been increasingly impressed with King's stuff, and now I'm thinking of adding the Dark Tower series to my TBR pile (as though I needed to make it longer).  What do y'all think of the series?

I am about halfway through and was actually surprised with how much I am into this series. I think these are a definite must read for any King fan.

I really liked these books. The first one, The Gunslinger, I found difficult to read and quit many times before I finished it. The rest are great for the most part. I did not like a few turns in the story and a few spots seem forced to me but I would add to the TBR and start reading. I am about due to reread that series. I have them (well loved) on my keeper shelf and can't count how many times I have picked them up to start again.

I read these over teh years as they were released.Aside from being GREAT books they also "add" to a King fans enjoyment because of the way they mesh with Kings other books which are not part of the series. You see characters and situations popping up in the Tower books  that you've seen elsewhere and King himself even makes a guest appearance in one of the Tower books!

I'm a big Stephen King fan, and the Dark Tower is considered his magnus opus.  They are simply great!

I loved the series, but agreee The Gunslinger is hard to get through. Some people start with book #2 and go back to The Gunslinger. I read them in order and once I got through Gunslinger read them all before I could read anything else.

I've read through the 6th book so far. I only have the last one to go. Overall they are very enjoyable and definitely grab your attention. There are some parts that drag a bit and and the dialects in some of the stories are hard to decipher, but I would definitely recommend them...especially if you are a King fan.

I have books 1 thru 4 in a paperback box set if anyone is interested. If you check out my bookshelf you will see them posted individually. If you order all 4 I'll send them in the box set. They are in very good condition (only read once and taken good care of). Thanks.
