Finally finished reading The Darkest Lie (released June 2010).

In this riveting new installment of "The Lords of the Underworld Series", Gideon, keeper of the Demon of Lies, fights to uncover the truth...

Forced to his knees in agony whenever he speaks the truth, Gideon can recognize any lie -- until he captures Scarlet, a demon-possessed immortal who claims to be his long-lost wife. He doesn't remember the beautiful female, much less wedding -- or bedding -- her. But he wants to...almost as much as he wants her. But Scarlet is keeper of Nightmares, too dangerous to roam free. A future with her might mean ultimate ruin. Especially as Gideon's enemies draw closer -- and the truth threatens to destroy all he's come to love.

I normally read a book in one sitting, but this one was hard to follow. Didn't care for the storyline all that much and Gideon's opposite-speak got old quickly. It's one thing when he's a secondary character. (Says "ugly", means "pretty"; says "Don't Go", means "Stay".) But as the main guy in this one, it was irritating.  Found out a few new tidbits about other characters, so I persevered. It wasn't horrible; there were some good parts. But it was less of a treat and more like homework, something I needed to get done.  Naturally, I prefer my reading to be yummy, mental treats!

Anyone else read this? Also, what are your favorite books/characters?

  • The Darkest Fire (April 2008 ebook) -- GEYRON (Guardian of Hell) / Kadence, Goddess of Oppression
  • The Darkest Night (May 2008) -- MADDOX (Keeper of Violence) / Ashlyn (hears voices from the past)
  • The Darkest Kiss (June 2008) -- LUCIEN (Keeper of Death) / Naya, Goddess of Anarchy
  • The Darkest Pleasure (July 2008) REYES (Keeper of Pain) / Danika (Seer/Dreams/Paintings)
  • The Darkest Prison (July 2009 ebook) - ATLAS (Titan God of Strength) / Nike, Goddess of Strength
  • The Darkest Whisper (September 2009) - SABIN (Keeper of Doubt) / Gwen, a Harpy
  • The Darkest Angel in Heart of the Darkness (January 2010) - angel LYSANDER / Bianca, a Harpy
  • The Darkest Passion - (June 2010) - AERON (Keeper of Wrath) /Olivia, an Angel
  • The Darkest Lie - (July 2010) - GIDEON (Keeper of Lies) / Scarlet, Keeper of Nightmares

Other characters:

  • Torin, Keeper of Disease
  • Paris, Keeper of Promiscuity
  • Kane, Keeper of Disaster
  • Galen, Keeper of Hope
  • Cameo, Keeper of Misery (only female warrior)

I read this series all the way up to Sabins book, which I didnt really care too much for. I enjoyed the ones before that one though. My favorites of the ones that I did read were definitely Maddox and Reyes.

I dont have much interest in Aeron. I wonder if I would miss much if I skipped that one?!  I never, ever do that while reading a series but for some reason he doesnt much interest me but I do really, really want to read Gideons story! I keep thinking back on the series and I always wondered how his book would turn out with the whole speaking the opposite of what he wants thing, lol.

The book Im most looking forward to is Paris' story! Cant wait for that one. Anyone know when its gonna be his turn?

I also like Torrin, and am interested in how his story is going to turn out.

This series was definitely not a "keeper" series for me but still enjoyable for the most part.

On her website, Gena Showalter has:

  • The Darkets Secret (March 2011) - Amun
  • The Darkest Surrendy (July 2011) - Strider

So nothing listed for Paris yet.  I'm looking forward to Cameo's story.  The one I can't see as being all that interesting is Kane (disaster).  Everytime they mention him with plaster falling on his head, or tripping, or whatever personal distaster occurs, it just makes me thing of the badluck character Schleprock in the Flintstones - wich makes it hard to imagine him as sexy, lethel warrior!

I actually liked Gideon's story... it almost made my keeper shelf.  I didn't care for Aerons' story though.  Did not care for Olivia at all.

I'm looking forward to Paris and Kane's stories.  They should be interesting.

I have enjoyed all the books in the series including this one.  I too am looking forward to Paris' story.  But guess it won't be anytime soon.  I am curious as to how she will address Torin's issues...just who will he be able to hook-up with???

I really enjoyed Gideon's story and he made my keeper shelf.  I read about half of Aeron's story and then quit. It is still sitting in my TBR pile but I don't know if or when I will get back to it.

My favoriate was Maddox. I am really looking forward to when she gets to Paris's story.
