HUH? ! ? ! ?
Mailed From: CA
Mailed To: OH
Okay, I am confused, which is not uncommon for me. I ordered this book, and this is the transaction of the process from my account. What confuses me is that it states Date Canceled: 2/28/2010 3:22 AM ET . Who canceled what? I didn't cancel the order for the book. PBS marked it as lost around the 5th of the month. I had PM'd the sender, and she just now responded, she was out of town and hadn't had a chance to check her email. She didn't cancel the book, so I am confused, what does that mean? So, from what I gather in the lost book guidelines, she will have to check from her end at her postal service to see if the book can be traced, and I intend Monday to see what I can find out from this end. But the canceled aspect? What does that mean? And if se don't find the book then what?
Thanks for any help.

It was cancelled after 26 days as lost, since nothing has been shown by the requestor as having received it. From the 2 to the 28th is 26 days and it was not marked received, therefore it is now lost. If you were the requestor, you will see that your credit has either been returned and the book put on your WL, or another copy has been ordered for you, if one was available. It will be under your "books ordered" or "books enroute" depending on whether the new sender has marked it sent or not. If you were the sender, you are just out the book and the credit, unless you used PBS DC or Postage, in which case, you should have gotten your credit already. You also both should have received an email telling you this book went lost. If you did not receive it, it probably went to your spam folder, but you can still see the copy of it by going to your Club Communications (a link directly under the tabs on MY ACCOUNT) |

It doesn't automatically reorder a book when one goes lost unless it's WL and posed quickly after going lost and on autorequest In fact it says in the help docs that it's best to wait 2 wks before reordering so you don't end up with 2 copies. I'll usually put a book on hold if it goes lost and back on my WL. Although so far none of the books that ever went lost enroute to me ever actually showed up. But Sherry is right-the book would have gone lost on 2/28 if it was marked mailed on 2/2. You can makr it received in your transaction archive if it shows up. |

You're right, Mary, thanks for the correction. I've been dealing with other cancellations too much lately. I forgot that lost books are nolonger auto-rerequested, partially because of the military and non-48 lower states that take longer to receive. Lost books used to be re-ordered automatically also, but I forgot that they changed that. |

I wasn't the sender, but had requested the book. I received the message from PBS that the book was lost. I PM'd the sender and she responded. She was out of town and hadn't checked her email, so didn't know it was marked as lost. She mailed it, so I am now assuming, from what I have read in the help docs, that she has to check with her postal service to see what has happened. I am going to tomorrow (Monday) see if I can find out from this end what has happened to the book. It wasn't on a WL, I prefer to order from my Reminder list; I have I think 8 books on the WL and they are ones that will be forever getting to me, as there is a long wait on them. So, the book won't be reordered and I end up with two books. What you have all said makes sense now. Thanks for the help. Janette |
