If you are a James Herriot fan you will see the parallels between this book and his books where the hardships of the Yorkshire farmers are concerned and the loneliness of the life there. This book has a little too much Barry and not enough Hannah for my taste. I would rather have known more about her and less about his opinions, however it is still an interesting story and a very good read.
