A great story about a great man, David Kopay, who came out in the 70's. Read this book and also the new book, Alone in the Trenches, by Esera Tuaolo. Esera is only the 2nd NFL player to come out. Both books and men are inspiring.

Given that another professional athlete (Jason Collins) I decided to read this book, one that I had been interested in for a while. The story is heart-wrenching, although Kopay puts a positive spin on most things, including the difficulty some of his family had accepting his homosexuality. While I enjoyed the book, I was most struck by the difference in attitudes towards homosexuals in the 1970s (when the book was written) and today. The writing was not great, but worth a read, both for the story itself and as a historical reference point.
