I was surprised that this was written by a 17 year old. Kendall Hailey shows more maturity at her age than I remember having at that time! An interesting look at the determination of a young girl who sets her heart on taking charge of her own education and the discoveries she makes therein. I think this book would be a great resource for homeschooling families or teens who feel they have lost their way.

[from the back cover] In this captivating, refreshing book Kendall Hailey describes her efforts to overcome adolescence through self-education. Here is atalented young writer's quest to discover and remain true to the bedrock values-intellectual, familial, and personal-as she makes the complicated but rewarding journey of growing up in a most unusual family.

Hailey is reminiscent of Holden Caulfield but shrewder..Betty Friedan
