THEY MET IN TRAGEDY ON A SNOWY RENO STREET. THERE WAS NO TIME FOR QUESTIONS--THERE WAS ONLY HER NEED AND HIS SUDDEN, FEROCIOUS DESIRE TO HELP HER. IT DIDN'T MATTER WHO THEY WERE ANY MORE THAN IT MATTERED HOW THEY'D BEEN BROUGHT TOGETHER, BONDED AS THEY WERE BY THE DRAMA UNFOLDING BEFORE THEM.

LATER, ALL THAT WOULD CHANGE. LATER, MIKE GRESHAM AND JOY STRAYER WOULD TRY TO DENY ALL THAT HAD HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM, FOR THEY KNEW ONLY LOVE'S WEAKNESSES AND NONE OF ITS STRENGTHS.
