This was a fantastic book! It is a story of a three-generation loss of family roots and identity, following a terrible tragedy. Slowly, the story reveals the tragedy, and the faith and family identity is able to be reclaimed. The voice is beautiful, mystical, and profound. It is much more than a historical novel, ghost story, or a search for origins story. It is a gem of a first novel, and I recommend it enthusiastically.
