Southern writing at its best. This is the story of the freindship between two women.

If you like Billie Letts' work (Where the Heart Is; The Honk and Holler Opening Soon) you'll like this. I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the two main characters - one at the end of her life and one just figuring out her beginning.
Couldn't get into it.
Ruth thinks that she has found her ticket out of Tennessee by eloping with a stero salesman, but soon he "gets religion" and Ruth leaves. When she faints in a North Carolina fiveand dime, Rose a feisty elderly reporter, rescues her, beginning a friendship stonger than family ties. THis is a story of friendship with humor and empathy. You will love it.
