Some praise for Dead End Game:

"A gripping New York City cop drama...lots of hard-boiled humor." --Kirkus Review

"A gritty and believable police procedural. The characters are a fascinating urban cornucopia...Newman's writing keeps events moving at a crisp pace, yet he manages to incorporate impressive detail." --Library Journal

"A strong and utterly absorbing book...Newman's revelations offer surprise after surprise and build toward one of those climaxes that make readers cancel dinner dates, ignore ringing telephones, and postpone sleep...a wonderful achievement." --Peter Straub

This is one of Newman's precinct novels and features Lt. Joe Dante. A major league pitcher is found dead from an overdose during league playoffs. At first suicide is suspected, but it is not long before the policy detetives know different. There is a good cast of suspects and they are all willing to play hardball.
