I just finished her second book Silent in the Sanctuary and enjoyed it quite a bit.  I chose to begin with this one rather than her first book Silent in the Grave so perhaps it would have been a bit easier to follow in the beginning if I'd read the previous book.

Lady Julia Grey, recently widowed (in the previous book), is called back from Italy to spend Christmas at her family's Victorian English estate which is a converted abbey.  I suspect the historical details may be a little slim (it's not really my genre) but overall I enjoyed the characters, the settings and the plot.

Raybourn apparently had difficulty finding a publisher for the first book and there hasn't been much publicity for this series.  I think it deserves a look.

I finished book #2 on Saturday and I thought it was great. I actually liked it even more than the first in the series. I went to Deanna Raybourn's website and it looks like #3 is done and is with her editor. I hope she has continued success because I thought these were really intelligent mysteries!

I really enjoy the series.  The first Silent in the Grave is a bit more dark and angsty.  We get to learn more about the background of the characters.  The ending is quite moving.  Silent in the Sanctuary is a little more light but equally enjoyable.  I look forward to the third.
