The books are different from the TV series. Both are great.
All the Hamish MacBeth series of mysteries are fun, humorous, intelligently written books. Hamish gets no respect from townspeople or his police superiors, and is always unlucky in love, but manages to solve every crime that comes into his jurisdiction.

was an enjoyable read.
I am thoroughly enjoying the Hamish Macbeth series...besides the mystery, it is funny, heartwarming and even a little romance! You'll enjoy it - quick read too.

Very fun read. Good plot and Hammish is at his best in this one!
Lochdubh is under attack by a vicious journalist who wishes to expose all secrets. Not too surprisingly, she is murdered and Hamish Macbeth must sort out the clues. Like the whole series, this mystery is well put together and amusing.
The eighteenth book in the series.
Hamish is a suspect when a muckraking reporter is found murdered in Lockdubh.

Hamish MacBeth at his most awesome.. He certainly comes across as very smart, or at least smarter than the "big-city" bobbies in this delightful mystery.
