The author packs a lot into the 165 pages of this book, and it provides an intriguing afternoon of reading. Well written. Published in 1984 and takes place on a cruise ship in 1927.

If you're looking for an old-fashioned mystery in the 20's/30's, K. K. Beck is your author. Her herooine, Iris, is so enjoyable.

Occasionally you read a review where the writer denounces the book for having either a cliched plot or where some of the characters are also cliches. But when you have an already off-the-wall writer like K.K. Beck, you're not too surprised when she has a bit of fun and writes a mystery novel where the plot and ALL the characters are cliches---even the children! And, of course, the female lead finally identifies the killer because of something the killer said about something which has nothing to do with the murder and which only a lady would know. And if you are a K.K. Beck fan, as I am, you eat it up!

I got a chuckle out of the newspaper reporter twice stating he was also "looking for Judge Crater." Joseph Force Crater went missing in 1930 and in that way became famous.

Undemanding book with pleasant characters (although the whole plot about the royal intrigue was a bit trying) and a satisfying conclusion.

This is mystery that takes place on an english luxury liner in 1927. There is blackmail and murder and international group of characters.
