Parker The Paradise Men's Softball League has wrapped up another game, and Jesse Stone is lingering in the parking lot with his teammates, drinking beer, swapping stories of double plays and beautiful women in the late-summer twilight. People who like Robert B. Parker should love this one; it is vintage Parker. The spartan dialogue, minimal descriptions that almost read like a screenplay. Jesse Stone struggles with addictions: alcoholism, his ex-wife, and the knowledge that his job as police chief of a small town north of Boston is is last shot at salvaging what is left of a career. Not a "great" book, but a great "read" and arguably the best of the Jesse Stone series.
Couldn't put it down! The crime solving keeps me hooked even though the self-analysis and the whole Jenn thing wear a little thin. Couldn't give it fewer than five stars, though, considering it came in yesterday's mail, I picked it up at 8:30 last night and am posting it this morning!
