This was a book that made you stop and appreciate life. I had been wanting to read this book for a long time. Unfortunately I think time has changed the meaning and emotion of this story a great deal. It is a courageous story about the end of a boy's life, long before his time, as seen through the eyes of his father. This family lived in a different time, a time of boarding school and hidden feelings. While the pain of losing his only son was evident, at times I felt the entire family was so distant from one another as well as their fellings, that it was difficult to relate. The book itself was written beautifully.
