Years ago I read this memoir, and enjoyed it more than any book I had ever read. I emailed the author, Eleanor Cooney, and we have been online friends ever since. This book made me laugh outloud so many times, and even shed more than one tear. Can you imagine being raised by a mother that won a beauty contest judged by Frank Sinatra?
and then took off for a while and married a movie star, Durante? The only reason I am posting this is, I have multiple copies, and wanted to share it with someone. She sure stood by her mother, as DEMENTIA by Alzheimers changed her from a famous author of novels herself, to, at the end of the story, an inmate of a rest home..I cant say enough about how womderful a writer Eleanor Cooney is, I love her to pieces. She even has an amazing website for this book, you could spend hours enjoying it.Thank you!

I loved this story. It was sad, but, I could relate to author so much. My mom does not have alzheimers, but she lived with us for awhile after having a small stroke. Eleanor Cooney's feelings were identical to mine...I felt so much better after reading her story. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an elderly parent that they are caring for, alzheimers or not.

This is one of the better books about caregivers and their patients who also happened to be her mother. It told the story of all she had to go through while taking on this job. Very well documented and also very well written. I did enjoy this book and felt for her as she visited nursing homes and also had to try and take care of her at home. She really made you feel as if you were going with her as she made her rounds. I laughed and cried through the whole book. Excellent!!!
