Why is it that if I decline a request because I don't meet the RC it doesn't show up in my transaction archive?  I've turned down 3 requests in the last few days (2 for smoking and 1 because they wanted "keeper" books and who knows if my idea of good condition is the same as theirs.) When I check my TA there's nothing there for these requests.

Don't believe you get penalized for declining an RC u don't meet...   In fact,  you are supposed to decline if you don't meet it.

This is intentional; RC-rejected transactions won't show up in the transaction records on either end.  As Adrienne noted, you aren't penalized for declining a request based on RCs, and it enables you to give anonymous, constructive criticism, when appropriate, to help member refine their RCs.

Cheers,

Catt

Do you really get penalized for turning down transactions??

I turned down a couple lately and never realized that I was getting penalized. Of course, I have a whole case of a certain book and have mailed 3 copies to the same person who keeps requesting more any time I list them. I wouldn't mind, but I saw the exact book for auction by the same member name on ebay. Maybe it's just me, but if I wanted them sold on ebay - I would do that. They are brand new, out of print books that I am trying to share with others on PBS - not sell them. How will people's wish list books ever get sent if everyone opts to sell them on ebay instead?!

Melanie-I would send an email to PBS and report them.  That is not the purpose of this site!

I thought about sending a email to PBS, but I think I remember seeing a thread on here, where people listed some rule stating basically that what you do with the books once you receive them is up to you - that they prefer you to trade them, but if you want to sell them that is your business.

I just planned on turning him down everytime he tries to get the books, but if it is going to count against me?????

You get flagged if you cancel above a certain amount.  But if you have a reason, TPTB will take that into consideration.  And while selling books is not against the rules (you do own them), a proven habit of selling books for profit can get you tossed off.

I know that the unpostables I get go to either the UBS or the library sales.

ETA.  And I really feel that selling the books is a great reason to cancel that member's orders.

Thanks for agreeing with me. The books probably aren't worth tons of money, but when I saw them on ebay the price was up to $42.50!! As a single mom, I could really use that money (!!), but as an avid reader, I could probably use a wish listed book that I cannot afford to purchase on ebay for $42.50 more!

Melanie if the books are worth $42 sell the books on ebay instead!  There are few books listed on PBS that are worth more than a few dollars.

It's not against PBS policy to sell books you received here, or trade them at a used book store or whatever--but as this member is requesting the same book over and over and you are seeing them listed continually on eBay, I would say that goes more toward "obtaining books for commercial purposes" and would be reportable to TPTB.

I wasn't worried about being penalized.  I just wondered why it doesn't show up on the transaction archive.  Just a curiosity thing.
