This is a great book for a bookclub read. It's funny and unpredictiable. You really don't know who the real killer is until the very end. The hero is a laid back private investigator from out of town. He eats junk food which drives Penny, our heroine, crazy. She's a health food nut and tempted too much with donuts, chocolate and vinegar chips. We all know how that is, right girls.

This one was a page turner, and I read it all in one night. The mystery is deep enough to keep you guessing, and the loose ends are tied up quite nicely.

Very cute book with more substance than I'd expected. I will definitely look for the follow up to this book!
Good characters, a bit of evil, and a lot of fun.

This book is fun to read and keeps you entertained with every chapter. Don't forget to pay close attention to the chapter titles, they are a story within their own right.
Excellent. Very entertaining!

The voodoo festival is underway and Penny finds herself with a voodoo doll and a fatally stabbed ex-husband. Now she must find the real culprit with the help of a sexy P.I. A good read.
Fun easy read. Love the characters and will be reading more of Stephanie Bond.
Recently divorced, Penny has a health food store across the street from her ex-husband's home. When her ex is murdered, Penny is quickly to blame by residents of the small town of Mojo Louisiana. Penny is out to solve the mystery and clear her name. I really liked this book and was surprised by the ending.

Good read.
When Penny Francisco's cheating ex-husband, Deke Black, turns up murdered, Penny is the prime suspect as she was found at the scene by the new younger vindictive girlfriend. Enter gorgeous Cajun PI BJ Beaumont who is helping Penny investigate the many inconsistencies in the police case against her.
This is a light voodoo novel not a dark black magic one. A great mystery with engaging likable characters. The conclusion is very satisfying but leaves enough loose ends - not really connected to the murder - to stimulate an interest in a sequel.

There's something strange afoot in the small town of Mojo, Louisiana. Yet even as the annual voodoo festival gets underway, Penny Francisco, who runs a health food business, refuses to believe in black magic. Her mind is on celebrating her divorce from her lying, cheating husband Deke. Penny is attending an "emancipation party" her friends plan. When she receives a Deke voodoo doll as a gag gift, she sticks it with a pin as a joke. But when Deke winds up fatally stabbed, the police aren't laughing. A junk-food junkie P.I. offers his services, and although Penny is wary of the sexy Cajun's motives (and his diet), she's desperate. Dodging a media sideshow and a looming murder rap, Penny realizes that somehow she's landed herself In Deep Voodoo.
I thought this was a fun read. I bought the rest of the series before I fished this one.

This was the first book I have read by this author. I wasn't really all that impressed. The story had a very slow start and throughout the book I found I was bored. I found myself skimming a lot. The actual story line was alright, although a few of the characters were just extremely annoying.
Starts out a little slow but seems to pick up toward the end.
During the annual voodoo festival in Mojo, Louisiana, Penny is given a "divorce party" by her friends. One of the gifts is a voodoo doll that is the image of her ex. After stabbing it at the urging of the partygoers, Deke is found stabbed, making her the best suspect.
A good yarn with insights into the world of voodoo.

Really enjoyed the book.
There's something strange afoot in Mojo,LA. A junk food junkie P.I. offers to help Penny Francisco who's facing a murder rap. Penny realizes that somehow she's landed In Deep Voodoo.
When Deke Black is stabbed through the heart with a lawn stake, the secrets of Mojo, La., start bursting to the fore in this lively first of a new romantic mystery trilogy from Rita Award–winner Bond (Whole Lotta Trouble). Deke's ex, health-food store owner Penny Francisco, is the primary suspect. Not only was she found at the scene of the crime holding the murder weapon but, at her divorce celebration, she stabbed a voodoo doll bearing Deke's likeness. The police are keen to pin the crime on Penny, and only sexy, junk-food-loving PI B.J. Beaumont may be able to keep her out of jail. It's hard to sympathize with Penny, whose troubles often stem from her own stupidity, and harder still to believe that she could fall in love with B.J. while suspecting him of murder.
I enjoyed this book, it has a lot of twists and keeps you guessing at the outcome.
start with a bad mood- add a pinprick of revenge-and watch things boil over.
a funny mystery with a little romance thrown in.
