Third book in the four-book series about the de Montforte. Good story about Andrew de Montforte, the brillaint inventor. The heroine is very unconventional. A woman ahead of her time, she is an animal rights activist, and, like Andrew feels about himself, she feels she is a misfit.

This book was my least favorite in the series of 4. THe defiant one was less than enthralling and slightly slow. the characters were there but the story line was so much like the other three that i felt that i had already read this one. a cute read but not a great one. the last book the wicked one is by far the best.
3rd in a series...Andrew's story
Both the bride and the groom had vowed never to marry, but a few drops of an aphrodisiac invented by Andrew left Celsie thoroughly compromised (or was it the other way around?) and marriage was the only option. Although Andrew found himself beginning to like the idea of being married to Celsie, he knew that she would despise him when she found out the truth about him. Celsie found herself falling in love with her handsome new husband, but knew that whatever horrible secret he was keeping from her had the potential to destroy their marriage.
I can't wait to read the last in this exciting series. enjoy!

I really loved the characters in this book! I am really enjoying this series!
This novel started with rollicking humor and unexpected turns. The hero is an inventor and the heroine is ahead of her time -- an animal activist. I thought this was going to be a great book but something happened along the way.
The author kept reminding the reader that the Duke of Blackheath was very manipulative. Then the issue of the aphrodisiac went from an item in the plot to just silliness. Later Marie Antoinette became a character in the story and it made little sense. The novel devolved from a fun romp to a story filled with stupid incidents. On the bright side, the author did a wonderful job of creating characters that grew to love each other over time.
