This is my first Holiday season wih PBS and I'm wondering what to expect as regards Media Mail shipping times.

I know Media Mail can be rather inconsistent at the best of times but are there further delays during December?

I have just sent out several books and am adding more WL books this week.  I would like them to get to their new owners before Christmas, but I'm doubtful that they will

If it's a smaller book, it might be worth it to pay a little extra for First Class postage this time of year.

It can take a little longer for media mail especially if it's a larger book order.  They do hire more people but media mail is their lowest priority and with so many other packages being sent this time of year MM can get bumped more often.

But small single book orders shouldn't take much extra time.  I pumped an audio book up that I was sending today.  It only cost me an extra .50 to send it 1st class and I decided to go ahead with the holidays.

Well, I think I go my answer at the PO today - and was informed that the Media mail book I was sending wouldn't arrive for Christmas and probably not this year.  But I am in Hawaii and the boat across the Pacific taking Media Mail is the original slow boat.

I've PMd those I've sent books to recently to advise them of the possible delays.  I expect some of my books to be marked as 'Lost' and hope they'll show up eventually.  The series "Lost" is filmed in HI - coincidence??? lol

However, I recieved a PBS book today that was mailed Dec 1st - so who knows, maybe some of the MM packages fall into the Priority or 1st class mail containers.

All of the books I've gotten from HI were declared lost before they got here.  And it wasn't the holiday season at the times.  (And I live in VA)

Oddly enough, I mailed two books out to members earlier this week: one to Florida and one to Puerto Rico.  The one going to Florida is still enroute, but the one going to Puerto Rico arrived yesterday.  Go figure! :-P
