The author, B. J. Oliphant, is really Sherri S. Tepper, who writes mysteries under this name and also as A. J. Orde. These are well-written, interesting stories involving an older woman rancher in Colorado.
The old Jewell place has fallen on evil days. The new owner has drained the wetlands, poisoned the scrub, destroyed the wildlife and the screaming machines are still at. Neighbor Shirley McClintock is just about ready to kill. So when the inevitable happens and someone does kill the ruthless greenhort, Shirley is the prime suspect.
This is part of a series and I have enjoyed each and every one. Good characters, well drawn, and always good plotting.
Another great tale of the Colorado ranch country, complete with bad neighbors who live short lives and Shirley McClintock, the sleuth, whose family and friends are faced with great evil and must make difficult choices. Good read!!
Mystery featuring amateur detective Shirley McClintock. Author B.J. Oliphant is a pseudonym for the sci fi/fantasy writer Sheri Tepper.
