P.D. James is one of best mystery writers of all time. She is British so her books are very English, which I happen to adore. There is nothing like a great British mystery writer.

BOMC Edition. Commander Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard has just published a new book of poems and has taken a brief respite from publicity on the remote Larksoken headland on the Norfolk coast in a converted windmill left to him by his aunt. But he cannot so easily escape murder. A psychotic strangler of young women is at large in Norfolk, and getting nearer to Larksoken with every killing. And when Dalgliesh discovers the murdered body of the Acting Administrative Officer on the beach, he finds himself caught up in the passions and dangerous secrets of the headland community and in one of the most baffling murder cases of his career.

Another great mystery novel by PD James staring everybody's favorite detective, Inspector Dalgleish. A masterpiece.

This is probably my least favorite James' novel. I learned more about so many people, especially the unhappy ones, than I cared to. The book just seemed to go on and on about everyone. And why so many people with personal hangups? Aren't there any 'normal' people left in England?

Then, in a chapter toward the end, she introduces the weirdest episode. It is almost as if you were watching a old Sherlock Holmes movie, with Basil Rathbone in the lead, and it was progressing to the climax, when Holmes turns a corner and you see Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca! Your immediate reaction is "What the .....!"

The book cover posted here does not look like my book. The front of my book has a small windmill on it. It is the same book, though.
